My Title JAHSON

I recently spelled my email address for someone, J-A-H-S-O-N and received a very confused look, as one usually expects when your name is not commonly spelt with an H. It is a common question I get, so instead of getting a million emails about it I figured that I would just explain myself to the world.

Nas had an album when I was in high school called God’s Son. I read that title and although I listened to the album for weeks on end, I never understood how someone could call themselves “God’s Son,” I thought God only had one Son and that was Jesus. So this title seemed like blasphemy.

It was during my year of complete sobriety (October 2006 - October 2007), that I was drawn back to the church and reintegration into the body of Christ. I was introduced to a verse in Paul’s letter to the Galatians. He said: "You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise" Gal 3:26.

I was inspired and instantly understood that Nas was not saying that he was Christ, but expressing that he was a devoted follower of Christ. I was inspired to let the world know of my devotion too. One of my greatest inspirations, Bob Marley, introduced me at a young age to a new name for God. He referred to the creator as Jah, which is short for Jehovah. So taking some inspiration from a Jamaica legend and some from one of the greats of Hip-Hop, my title was born. JahSon declares outright that I consider my self a child of God and want the world to know that I am a follower of Christ, but as a matter of coincidence it still sounded a lot like my birth name Jason. In Greek it means 'to heal' or 'healer and in Hebrew means 'the Lord is my salvation.’ So not only is it a blatant declaration of my Faith in God, but also can be interpreted as a declaration of my gratefulness to God for his saving GRACE and my desire to help heal souls.
